James Joseph Larrañaga also known as Jim Larranaga was born on October 2, 1949. Since 2011, he has served as the men’s basketball team’s head coach at the University of Miami Hurricanes, where he coaches collegiate basketball.
He started his coaching career in 1971. Larraaga was the head men’s basketball coach at American International College from 1977 to 1979, Bowling Green State University from 1986 to 1997, and George Mason University from 1997 to 2011, where he led the Patriots to 13 consecutive winning seasons and rose to fame after the team’s unlikely run to the Final Four in the 2005-2006 season, all before joining the University of Miami.
He guided the Miami Hurricanes to their first-ever appearance in the Final Four in the 2022–23 season. By the end of the 2022–23 season, Larraaga had won 725 games as a head coach and three national coach of the year awards.
