He started his professional career in League Two and the Football Conference with Shrewsbury Town, his hometown team. He was recruited by numerous other top-flight teams and joined Manchester City in the Premier League in 2006.
He went on loan to Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool during his rookie season. In the 2009–10 season, Hart spent time on loan with Birmingham City. For his efforts there, he was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year and selected as the Premier League goalkeeper of the season.
For the 2010–11 Premier League season, he made a comeback to Manchester City and took home the Golden Glove for maintaining the cleanest sheets. Hart shares the record for the most Premier League Golden Glove awards with more than 100 Premier League shutouts (four).
