In the playoffs that season, the Blues advanced to the Western Conference Final, where they were defeated by the Colorado Avalanche, the eventual 2001 Stanley Cup champions. Tkachuk suffered multiple injuries while playing for the Blues and was briefly suspended when he arrived at training camp overweight and failed his physical at the start of the 2005-06 season.
