Anthony Joseph Foyt Jr. was born On January 16, 1935. He was a former American auto racer who participated in a number of motorsports. His open-wheel racing background includes sprint cars, midget cars, and US Automobile Club Champ cars. He competed in USAC stock cars and NASCAR races. He won several significant sports car racing competitions. He holds the records for both the American championship racing career wins (67) and the USAC lifetime wins (159).
He is the only driver to have triumphed in the Daytona 500, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in addition to winning the Indianapolis 500 four times (1961, 1964, 1967, and 1977). Foyt won the International Race of Champions all-star racing series in 1976 and 1977. On the NASCAR stock car circuit, he won the 1964 Firecracker 400 and the 1972 Daytona 500. Foyt was in three major collisions that left him with severe injuries, and he narrowly averted a fourth. Due to his achievements, Foyt is now a member of several motorsports halls of fame.
