Daryl Ford played basketball in high school but chose to pursue another career after graduation.
His father, former NBA player Karl Malone, began his professional basketball career with the Utah Jazz in 1985 and spent most of his time with them. Before he left the game on March 23, 2006, he also played for the Lakers and the American team. He earned the nickname “the mailman” because, during his productive years as a basketball player, he always carried out his duties.
At Louisiana Tech University, Karl Malone worked as the basketball program’s director and an assistant strength and conditioning coach. He made a comeback to his first professional team, the Utah Jazz, in 2013 as their big-man coach.
Malone joined the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs basketball coaching staff in 2007 after leaving the NBA, and in 2010 he was elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame twice—for his career and as a member of the 1992 U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team.
