David Goggins was born on February 17, 1975. He is an ultramarathon runner, ultradistance cyclist, triathlete, author, and public speaker from the United States. He was an Iraq War veteran and a retired United States Navy SEAL. He published his debut book, Can’t Hurt Me, in 2018 and a follow-up, Never Finished, in 2022.
Trunnis and Jackie Goggins welcomed David into the world on February 16, 1975. Goggins, his parents, and his brother Trunnis Jr. resided in Williamsville, New York, in 1981. Goggins has explained how, at the age of six, he helped out at his father’s skating rink with his mother and brother.
In his book Can’t Hurt Me, Goggins claims that he and his family members were subjected to severe and ongoing abuse by their alcoholic father before running away with their mother to Brazil, Indiana. Between leaving the Air Force and joining the Navy, Goggins worked as an Ecolab fumigator for pest management.
Goggins was accepted for training after applying to join the United States Air Force Pararescue. He was taken out of training after it was discovered that he had sickle cell trait.
When he got back, he had the choice of starting the program over again, but he didn’t. He then passed the Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) training course provided by the United States Air Force and served as a TACP from 1994 until his separation from the Air Force in 1999.
Goggins finally completed BUD/S training with BUD/S class 235 in 2001 after three attempts due to severe ailments.
