Cherry has espoused contentious political views for which he has been chastised, notably comments about Canada’s lack of support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq and his denial of climate change. Don met his future wife, Rosemarie, during his rookie season with the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears. Rosemarie Cherry married Don Cherry in 1957 when she was 22 years old. Don established Rose Cherry’s Home for Kids in her honor. Cherry is inspired by her name to always wear a rose on his lapel.
